Handbell Director and Activities Assistant

The Brookwood Community is seeking a full-time Handbell Director and Activities Assistant. First, to provide musical direction and leadership for the Brookwood Handbell Ensemble including, but not limited to, off-campus performances, high-profile events, and seminars. Second, to engage, support and lead activities for our Citizens including but not limited to: swimming, bike-riding, action classes, chimes, and outings. He/she will regularly interface with the Residential Manager to set program direction, goals, and milestones. He/she will also assist the Community Life Coordinator in performing various activities.

QUALIFICATIONS – B.A. or equivalent degree. Must be able to read music. Must be proficient in a wide variety of computer programs. Must have strong written and oral communication skills; will be asked to regularly present in front of large audiences. Must be able to perform wide range of physical tasks including but not limited to swimming, bike riding, lifting a resident to and from a wheel chair or bed. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – Prefer undergraduate degree in music education, music, or music therapy. Previous experience with special needs preferred. Must be willing to participate in on-going training activities to better understand the resident’s medical, psychological, and vocational needs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS – Special consideration given to MT-BC certified Music Therapist. Must possess a valid driver’s license from the State of Texas.
