Through the Grace of God, The Brookwood Community provides an educational environment that creates meaningful jobs, builds a sense of belonging and awakens real purpose for adults with disabilities.  We invite you to COME ABOARD for Brookwood’s 2017 Golf Benefit and help us reach the $1 million goal.

Dear Family and Friends,
Our daughter Kelcie is a day Citizen at The Brookwood Community in Brookshire, TX.  Mike and I have been on the path to Brookwood since Kelcie was 12 years old and finished 6th grade.  She attended The Briarwood School for seven years, graduated in September 2015 and started working at Brookwood the first week of October.  This month, she celebrates her 2nd anniversary as a Brookwoodian!
Kelcie has been a Day Program Citizen for 2 years now working in the greenhouses.  She loves it!  She has a huge smile on her face every Tuesday and Thursday as we drive to Brookshire, Texas and is still happy when she is picked up at the end of the day despite the fact that she is really dirty!  She is the happiest we have seen her in years.  The phrase of the Brookwood mission statements that states “…builds a sense of belonging and awakens real purpose for adults with disabilities” rings so true for Kelcie!  Mike and I are big believers in Brookwood and their program.  Our hope is that in 10 years or so Kelcie will move to Brookwood and become a full-time resident.
Brookwood is a non-profit residential community for adults with mental and physical disabilities located in Brookshire, Texas.  Brookwood would not be the place it is today without the annual fundraising efforts.  The number one fundraising event is the Golf Benefit which is celebrating its 32nd anniversary.  Most of the money raised through the Golf Benefit comes from individual Brookwood families, such as ours, simply forming a “team” in honor of their Citizen and then asking their friends and family to support their team.
I am proud to say that Brookwood keeps their expenses to less than 3%, so the majority of the funds go straight to benefiting the Citizens of Brookwood (utilities, staff salaries, special activities and maintenance of the homes and facilities.)  They do not accept government funding, so private fundraising is very important.
All contributions are tax deductible.  I hope you can join me in supportng the men and women of Brookwood and being a part of Kelcie’s team.
We appreciate your consideration.
Thank you,
Pat, Mike and Kelcie Shaw
